Ourense, November 9, 2023.- The Subdelegation of the Government of Ourense begins the cycle of activities on the occasion of the 25N -International Day against Violence against Women- which will take place throughout the month of November with training sessions.
This meeting, which took place in the Casa da Cultura of the Cineclube Padre Feijoo, was presided over by the head of the Gender Violence Unit of the province of Ourense, Alida Iglesias, who insisted this morning on the importance of the coordination between administrations, justice and forces and security bodies to make effective the measures of protection to the victims of gender violence. He recalled that 230 women live today in Galicia with a device of this type, to which are added another 700 who have telephone support and 24 hour location through the service "Atenpro".
Iglesias warned that there are currently 4,700 active cases in the Viogen system in Galicia, "4,700 women who cannot live quietly, who are afraid and whose life is threatened", in particular 426 victims in the province of Ourense and added that "our responsibility and our task is to properly manage the elements to give them security and protection".
He also wanted to place special emphasis on the importance of the work of knowledge and education to influence the reduction of male violence and to be able to achieve "zero violence". In fact, the main theme of this year’s conference is indirect violence and its impact on minors.
Day
The Conference brings together more than 50 members of the Civil Guard, National Police and local police from different parts of Galicia, as well as members of the Women's Information Center and social workers of the Provincial Councils and different associations.
During the day, Aser Moreiro, agent of the EMUME of the Civil Guard of the Ourense Command, spoke. He made a presentation on the evolution of the Law against Gender Violence, approved in 2004 and its impact 19 years later. On the other hand, the Prosecutor for Gender Violence of the provincial court of Lugo, Elena Fernández Landeiro, intervened, which will help us to obtain a broader perspective on vicarious violence and how crimes of violence against women affect minors.
