Vigo, June 2, 2023.- The subdelegate of the Government in Pontevedra, Maica Larriba, inaugurated this morning at the trade wharf of the Port of Vigo tingling the exhibition on the 50th anniversary of the Service of Deactivation of Explosives and Nuclear, Radiological, Biological and Chemical Defense (SEDEX-NRBQ) of the Civil Guard. The exhibition exhibits robots, specific material for the deactivation of devices, special suits and other devices used by the Civil Guard along with explanatory panels that review the history of this specialty that has personnel of a very high technical level. The mayor of Vigo, Abel Caballero, and the Colonel of the Civil Guard of Pontevedra, Simón Venzal, also participated in the event.
The subdelegate of the Government highlighted the “specialized” work carried out by this section of the Civil Guard and explained that throughout this half century of life the body participated in 5,702 incidents in the province of Pontevedra. In the framework of this action, it highlights the participation in two campaigns against the terrorist organization ETA in which explosive devices were deactivated. They also participated in campaigns against organizations such as the Guerrilla Army and the Galician Resistance in which explosives were also neutralized.
The exhibition can be visited until Sunday, day 4 and serves as a tribute to all the agents of the Tedax fallen into service nationwide since its creation. SEDEX-NRBQ agents, better known as Tedax (Technicians Specializing in Explosive Device Deactivation), since its inception, neutralized more than 255,000 ammunition of all types and deactivated more than 3,220 explosive devices, such as bomb-lashes or car bombs.
These specialists work for the daily deactivation of projectiles that appear at different points, mostly from the Civil War, the intervention with explosive material from terrorist commands or the intervention in humanitarian catastrophes, as in the year 2021 in the volcano of La Palma, where they carried out measurements and control of the gases after the eruption of the volcano, in order to guarantee the safe return to the homes of the evacuated people.
