Extremadura remains the safest autonomous community in Spain with a rate of 32.9 crimes per thousand inhabitants in 2024, according to the data collected in the Crime Balance prepared by the Ministry of the Interior. This rate represents a decrease in the number of crimes of -1.8% and places Extremadura with 17.7 crimes less per 1,000 inhabitants than the national average.
The latest report shows that the number of crimes in Extremadura breaks the upward trend and confirms a decrease for the first time in the last three years.
The number of known crimes during 2024 has stood at 34,643, which is a decrease of -1.8% on the data of 2023.
The trend detected in the latest reports of a decrease in computer scams (-5.2%) is maintained, although there is a considerable increase in the other computer crimes (31.1%), which places the total number of cybercrimes in data very similar to those of the previous year, with a slight increase of 0.5%. The marked decrease in cyberscams is significant, which confirms the effectiveness of the Security Bodies and Forces against this new type of crime and the greater awareness of citizens when adopting the necessary precautions during navigation through the networks.
In 2024, the number of crimes against property has also decreased. Robberies have fallen by 7.3%; robberies with force in things by 8.2% and robberies with violence or intimidation by 8%. Especially significant is the decrease in the number of robberies in public establishments, which has fallen by 27.7%.
In the case of drug trafficking offences, there has been a decrease of 13.7% and in road safety offences the decrease was 2.9% compared to the data for 2023.
On the other hand, there is an increase in the number of offences defined as ill-treatment, although as in recent quarters, this is a slight increase, with an increase of 5%.
The largest increase by type of crime has occurred in sexual crimes, with an increase of 17.4%; sexual assaults with penetration stand out, with an increase of 27.3% and especially sexual crimes related to minors and disabled people, rising by 91.7%, from 12 known crimes in 2023 to 23 in 2024.
