The delegate of the Government in Cantabria, Eugenia Gómez de Diego, presided this Sunday at the Civil Guard Quartering in Santander a solemn act in tribute to the victims of national and international terrorism suffered by this Body. During the ceremony, a floral offering was made before the monolith erected in memory of the deceased of this institution.
July 14 is a significant date for the Civil Guard, as it commemorates the Day of Memory and Remembrance of the Victims of Terrorism of this Body. In Cantabria, this tribute materializes with a simple but emotional act, such as the floral offering. In addition, in all the quarrels of the Civil Guard of the country, the Flag will fly at half-mast in a sign of mourning.
“On this day we remember with gratitude and respect those who lost their lives in the fight against terrorism. Their sacrifices represent the values of justice and freedom that we defend as a society. It is essential that we continue to work for a more just and equitable society, where violence has no place and the rights of all citizens are protected,” said Gómez de Diego.
The Civil Guard has been hit hard by terrorist violence, both national and international, with a tragic toll of 243 dead and more than 500 injured nationally. In Cantabria, several quarrels have been the target of terrorist attacks, and members of the Corps, whether they are Cantabrians or have family members in this Autonomous Community, who have fallen victim to terrorist barbarity, are remembered with special respect.
This day stands as a tribute to the victims of Civil Guard terrorism, reaffirming a commitment of gratitude and serving as a stimulus for the fulfillment of duty.
