• The government delegate in Cantabria, together with the regional president, presided over the event in which Adif, the regional government and the City of Camargo signed the protocol to materialize the project
The government delegate in Cantabria, Pedro Casares, has claimed the “policy of the agreement” that has allowed this Monday the protocol of action between the Government of Spain, through Adif, the Regional Executive and the City of Camargo to materialize the coverage of the train tracks as they pass through Maliaño.
The president of Cantabria, María José Saénz de Buruaga, and the government delegate have presided over the signing of this agreement by the president of Adif, Luis Pedro Marco de la Peña; the Minister of Development, Housing, Regional Planning and Environment, Roberto Media; and the mayor of Camargo, Diego Movellán.
At the event, held in the Government Delegation, Casares highlighted the importance of signing this protocol for both Camargo and the whole of Cantabria because it is the beginning for the materialization of a project that “has been talked about for decades” and that is a “shared illusion of the neighbors of Camargo”.
“They are going to be able to finally unite their streets separated for years by the train tracks,” said the government delegate, who recalled that a section of 275 meters of the Santander-Torrelavega line will be covered and that action will allow the municipality to gain “spaces for coexistence and to make a city more habitable, more sustainable, more friendly and more human.”
Casares highlighted the commitment of the Government of Spain to Cantabria and that “has made possible” the signing of this protocol to materialize the project as “many” others, among which he cited the improvement of the nearby railway network, the arrival of high speed to Reinosa, the Hermida Gorge or the third Polanco-Santander lane.
He also stressed that this commitment of the State is what is driving the other two “great urban transformation projects” such as Camargo’s and that are the railway integration in Santander, so that the first actions of 41 million euros have already been mentioned; and the subsidy of the roads in Torrelavega.
“It should not be news that the Government of Spain is complying with Cantabria and that long-demanded projects are a reality, but it is and it is good news because we have been waiting for many years for a Government to make them possible and this Government has done it,” added the delegate.
To conclude, Casares stressed that “citizenship wins and Cantabria advances more when we are able to agree and work together, from different administrations and institutions, to make the projects that will bring more progress and well-being to the Cantabrians a reality”.
PROJECT TO COVER ROADS IN MALIAÑO
During the event, the president of Adif detailed that the project to cover the roads in Maliaño will involve an investment of 14 million euros, without VAT included, of which 1.5 million will be financed by the public company for the drafting of the constructive project.
While the remaining 12.5 million will be the cost of the action, of which 50% will be financed by the Government of Spain, 30% by the Government of Cantabria and the other 20% by the City of Camargo.
In addition, the protocol of action signed on Monday provides that the financing of the three administrations will be divided into three annuities, from 2028 to 2030.
The head of Adif has also indicated that the project will not only cover the tracks but also includes adapting the electrification, modifying the signalling and communications system, the urbanization of the roofs and the environmental integration of its environment.
