The government delegate in Cantabria, Pedro Casares, has highlighted the commitment of the Government of Spain to “make reality” the railway integration in Santander.
He pointed out that this project that “we have waited so long” will begin with this Government, which this Tuesday authorized in the Council of Ministers the tender for 41.5 million euros of the first actions of the railway integration in the capital of Cantabria.
“A long-awaited commitment on the part of Santander and Cantabria and that, once again, becomes reality with the Government of Spain presided over by Pedro Sánchez,” said the government delegate.
Casares explained that the project that will be put out to tender “will allow the provisional diversion of the tracks and the construction of a new terminal of offices of Adif”, which are the first works of the “great project” that will mean for Santander the railway integration.
He also stressed that, once again and once again, the Council of Ministers shows “the commitment of the Government of Pedro Sánchez with Cantabria”.
“This is extraordinary news. Today we have to be happy. It is a day of congratulation because a long-awaited project is beginning to materialize,” he said.
In addition, Casares has pointed out that, with this tender, the Government not only meets the deadlines advanced in the monitoring committee for railway integration but “does so even a few weeks before the scheduled date”.
To conclude, he has trusted that, as the Minister of Transport, Óscar Puente, advanced at the time, “in 2026 we can already see the machines working in Santander”.
AUTHORISED CONTRACT
The Council of Ministers on Tuesday authorised the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility to tender, through Adif, this contract with an estimated value of 41.5 million euros (VAT included) to carry out the first works of the railway integration project in Santander.
These first actions consist of the diversion and provisional station of the wide Iberian network in the station of the capital of Cantabria.
The works mainly include the diversion of the conventional roads, which will allow, together with those of the new building of offices for railway use, to free the spaces necessary to execute the rest of the works contemplated in the agreement signed by the Ministry, through Adif and Renfe; the Government of Cantabria; and the City of Santander.
These works comply with the commitments established in the last monitoring committee of the agreement, as well as the works of the new building of offices for railway use, which will be tendered soon.
Both actions will be fully financed by the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, through Adif, as it involves functional and operational improvements for the railway infrastructure.
For its part, Transportes, also through the work of Adif, advances in the drafting of the project of modernization and expansion of the passenger building of the station, which will fully finance, as well as the project of reorganization of spaces within the railway complex, cofinanced by Adif, the City Council and the Regional Executive.
With these two performances, the final image of the entire performance would be achieved, which occupies a prominent place in the Proximity Plan of Cantabria.
