Under the perspective of a “Spain 2050”, adapted in this case to the island, the intervention proposed a development model based on training, research and the creation of opportunities to retain and attract talent. It was proposed to strengthen education in all its stages, promote professional and university training, and promote emerging sectors related to digital transformation, volcanology, astronomy and the blue economy. It also stressed the importance of supporting local entrepreneurship and innovation as engines to generate quality employment and increase the competitiveness of the island.
The presentation concluded by highlighting the potential of La Palma to become an international reference in science, sustainability and quality of life. To this end, it is committed to improving connectivity and strategic infrastructures, strengthening the Roque de los Muchachos Observatory, developing volcanological research and taking advantage of resources such as geothermal energy to create new economic opportunities, especially in areas such as wellness tourism, associated with the spas that develop in the environment of geothermal power plants such as Blue Lagoon in Iceland. The final message conveyed an optimistic and ambitious vision, based on the resilience of the palm tree society and the island’s ability to build an innovative, sustainable and diversified future.
