Since June of this year, a team of military psychologists in La Palma serves those citizens who need support. The Commissioner’s team wanted to express its gratitude, stressing that “the reconstruction of La Palma involves not only recovering infrastructure, housing or economy, but also caring for people from an integral perspective. The emotional and psychological well-being of those affected is a priority for all administrations involved in the reconstruction process.”
The High Office of the State highlighted the dedication and professionalism of the psychologists of CECOSS, “who have been together with families, helping to channel the emotional impact of their very diverse situations, offering constant accompaniment and contributing to the resilience of the entire palm community.”
He also recalled that the work of CECOSS falls within the framework of the Integral Recovery Plan of La Palma, coordinated with the Island Council, the municipalities and the Government of the Canary Islands, with the aim of guaranteeing continuous attention to all the people affected by the eruption. CECOSS has been working mainly in Tazacorte, Los Llanos and El Paso, the municipalities affected by the eruption. When the first troops arrived, they also held meetings with the mayors and the neighborhood councils and made a telephone number available to the population. His work has been developed together with the local social care media, in public administration centers and even at home according to the needs of each case.
“The human effort behind reconstruction is just as important as works or economic aid. It is a luxury to be able to count on this team of professionals who continue to contribute to the social and emotional recovery of the island,” added Izquierdo.
