His Majesty King Don Felipe inaugurates today in the National Library the exhibition, Azaña: intellectual and statesman. 80 years after his death in exile, which will remain open to the public until April 4, 2021.
At the event, the King will be accompanied by the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, the Vice-President and Minister of the Presidency, Relations with the Courts and Democratic Memory, Carmen Calvo, the Minister of Culture and Sport, José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes and the President of the Congress of Deputies, Meritxell Batet.
This exhibition is part of the program of activities prepared by the Ministry of the Presidency, Relations with the Courts and Democratic Memory, through the Secretary of State for Democratic Memory, to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the death of Azaña.
This exhibition, which has been organized by the Secretary of State for Democratic Memory, Spanish Cultural Action and the National Library, aims to provide a complete image of Manuel Azaña, in his triple dimension: human, intellectual and political, highlighting, in addition to his work as minister, head of the Government and president of the Republic, his status as an intellectual of prestige, as well as the harsh conditions of his exile, which ended with his death in the French city of Montauban, where his memory remains present eighty years later.
