The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, claimed this morning in Santiago the ILENIA and ALIA projects, promoted by the Government of Spain in collaboration with the University of Santiago to consolidate the Galician language as a technological language, “always with an open approach, designed to transfer knowledge and to compete in an ecosystem as decisive as that of artificial intelligence.” Pedro Blanco highlighted the work of the Government in favor of the Galician in the presentation of the results of the NÓS project, in the specific area of ILENIA, together with the General Director of Artificial Intelligence of the Ministry for Digital Transformation and Public Service, Aleida Alcaide.
“The Galician leads, the Galician adds, the Galician unites and demonstrates that a language never subsides, a language multiplies,” said the delegate who stressed that defending the language “is defending a plural and diverse country, and the administrations have the responsibility to guarantee it the space and respect it deserves.”
In this line, he highlighted the effort being made by the Government of Spain through the investment of more than 360 million euros to digitize the Galician territory. There are many projects that advance Galicia in the challenge of technological modernization, but the NÓS Project is especially valuable, “open and collaborative, which adds talent and generates future in a labor field with as much future as cutting-edge technology and artificial intelligence”.
This initiative is the Galician version of the ILENIA project, funded within the framework of the PERTE of the New Language Economy. He also highlighted the ALIA project, a pioneering initiative in the European Union that aims to provide a public infrastructure of AI resources and that does so both in Spanish and in Galician, Catalan and Basque. It is driven by the AESIA, installed in the city of A Coruña.
The delegate stressed the position of Galicia as a reference in the field of AI in the hand of the Government of Spain, “with the arrival of AESIA in Coruña, the future AI factory in the field of health, or the new headquarters of CESGA here, in Santiago”.
However, the delegate pointed out that the Government is not going to stop, dynamizing in the Galician territory the training and training in artificial intelligence for students, professionals and citizens; accelerating digitalization; promoting innovation without leaving anyone behind; and supporting our companies and SMEs, because there is no digital transformation without a strong productive fabric.” In this regard, the delegate conveyed his gratitude to all the Galician educational, business and social fabric that make this path possible with responsible, ethical and transparent technology and artificial intelligence, “focused on people and useful for the whole society, also committed to their language.”
