- The delegate who has visited the works in Chiva, announces that, soon, new works will begin with an investment of € 5M to increase the capacity of the pipeline
- Currently, “dissipation basins are being built to limit water speed and have less impact on homes,” said Bernabé.
The delegate of the Government in the Valencian Community, Pilar Bernabé, together with the Chiva River Bank, Ernesto Navarro, has visited the actions for the repair of damages of the margins of the Poyo Ravine, which runs the Júcar Hydrographic Confederation dependent on the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge. These works, currently under execution, represent an investment of 8.6 million euros. The delegate has announced that to these actions, new ones will be added to increase the capacity of the channel that will have a budget of 5 million euros.
As Barnabas explained, the current works focus on the upper part of the ravine that crosses Chiva, “where some work is being done to be able, together with the corresponding scientific institutes, to carry out a study of the speed of the water, of how the behavior of the water was”. To limit this speed, he said, “some dissipation basins are being executed with the object to lower the intensity and not have such a direct impact on the houses.” To do this, all sides are also being protected with earrings. To this performance, “the following works will be added in the lower part to give more capacity to the waterway and protect the houses much better before a water avenue”.
The objective of these works is the hydro-morphological restoration of the Poyo ravine’s riverbed, while ensuring the stability of the margins, improving and expanding as much as possible the drainage capacity of the ravine.
As the delegate recalled, the Government of Spain has allocated a total of more than 81 million euros to Chiva to repair the damage caused by the dana. The delegate stressed that “the Government leads the reconstruction of the province of Valencia with the intention, above all, that it is not the same as before October 29, 2024, but better, making it more resilient to protect the neighbors in a much clearer way before possible avenues”.
