- The government delegate in Cantabria participates in the concentration at the entrance of the Delegation for the World Day in Remembrance of the Victims of Traffic Accidents
The government delegate in Cantabria, Pedro Casares, has advocated for the joint work of administrations and drivers to reduce road accidents and has also Committed to continue intensifying awareness campaigns to continue reducing the number of victims of traffic accidents, especially among vulnerable users (motorcyclists, cyclists and pedestrians).
Casares pointed this out this Monday after the rally held at the entrance of the Government Delegation on the occasion of the World Day in Remembrance of Victims of Traffic Accidents, which is commemorated on the third Sunday of November.
Under the motto ‘Lost Talents’, on this World Day in Memory of Victims of Traffic Accidents the message to transmit is: “We don’t want new victims to remember.”
The government delegate has detailed that, until yesterday, In this 2025, 16 people died on the Cantabrian roads in traffic accidents. And, so far this year, 2,705 accidents have been recorded in Cantabria, which, in addition to the deaths, have caused 77 injuries with hospitalization and 1,309 mild, he said.
In addition to thanking the work of “all those who take care of us, protect us and ensure our road safety”, Casares has highlighted the work carried out in recent years to change the regulations, with advances such as the card for points or the reduction of alcohol permitted rates at the wheel, and to “redouble” the awareness campaigns that “put us against the mirror of reality and against the stories of victims of traffic accidents”.
And it has also pointed to the work of all administrations to continue improving the road network. In the case of the State network, the government delegate has assured that it is investing in the improvement and maintenance of the roads.
He has also pointed out as another outstanding line of work the aid to citizens to renew the mobile park and access “new vehicles that incorporate many improvements in the field of road safety and also reduce the probability of having traffic accidents”.
The provincial head of Traffic, José Miguel Tolosa, participated in the concentration, who recalled the importance of campaigns to sensitize and raise awareness in Cantabrian society about such important matters as alcohol and drugs, use of motorcycles or distractions in driving.
Precisely, the latter, mainly due to the use of the mobile phone at the wheel, has indicated that they are behind more than 30% of the accidents registered in the region in recent years.

Martínez; the commander of the Traffic Sector of the Civil Guard of Cantabria, Jorge Giro; the head of the State Road Demarcation in Cantabria, Rosendo Martínez; representatives of 112 and 061, of several Local Police, of municipalities, of agencies of the Autonomous Government, of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Road Safety, of professional associations and, of course, members of the entities of relatives and victims of traffic accidents.
MANIFESTO FOR WORLD DAY
In the rally, a minute of silence was observed and the Manifesto for the World Day in Remembrance of the Victims of Traffic Accidents was read by Rodolfo Castillo, representative in Cantabria of the Association of Spinal Injuries (AESLEME).
In the manifesto, it has been indicated that anyone can be a victim of a sinister road, in which “in a matter of moments lives full of energy become memories” and, to avoid this, the support and awareness of the whole society is necessary.
“We all have a role to play in achieving safer streets and roads,” recalls the manifesto, which recognizes the emergency services, police, civil and health guards who intervene daily in traffic accidents, as well as the associations of victims and entities that promote the improvement of road safety.
“I hope that the agencies, entities and associations that we are represented here today will continue to work together to reduce these accident figures and make mobility increasingly sustainable and safe on our streets and roads in Cantabria, alleviating the serious consequences that traffic accidents cause for the whole of society,” said Castillo.
