• Casares highlighted the “advances, conquests, rights and freedoms” achieved by Spain in these 50 years of democracy and that “have made us a great country”
The government delegate in Cantabria, Pedro Casares, stressed that the Civil Guard “lives the best moment in its history” with the largest number of agents in Cantabria and Spain and has the “unequivocal commitment” of the Government of Spain to improve the conditions of the body “with more means and investments”.
Thus, Casares has indicated that the body in the community has 1,293 agents, after increasing the staff by 8% only in 2025, year in which 93 new guards have been incorporated, men and women who “protect us and guarantee our security”, a role for which they are “in the heart of every Spanish and every Cantabrian”.
A work that, he said, means that until the end of the first half of this year, criminal offenses in the Demarcation of the Civil Guard in the region and cybercrime by 4% have been reduced by 3.6%.
The government delegate highlighted this Sunday in the event for the day of El Pilar, patron of the Civil Guard, which was held this year in Cartes and which he chaired together with the head of the body in Cantabria, Lieutenant Colonel Julio Postigo.
In his speech, Casares also highlighted the contribution of the Civil Guard to the “advances, conquests, rights and freedoms” achieved by Spain in these 50 years of democracy and that “have made us a country that grows, reinvents and advances”, placing itself “at the forefront of the most developed countries in the world”.
“We are a country with history, but above all with a future”, emphasized the delegate, who has valued Spain as a “reference” for its defense of social welfare, equal opportunities, the quality of its public services and its advancement in citizen rights.
And, in order to continue moving forward in all that “we have built together”, Casares has appealed to the “constitutional spirit and the transition that allowed us to reach country agreements, overcome our differences and walk together in a shared future”.
COMMITMENT OF THE GOVERNMENT OF SPAIN TO THE CIVIL GUARD
The representative of the State in the region has highlighted the commitment of the Government of Spain to strengthen the Civil Guard, also with “investments” such as those being carried out in the headquarters of Reinosa and Cabezón de la Sal or in the Operational Center of Services and Coordination of Emergencies in Santander.
In addition, he has indicated that the Civil Guard advances in “a cause as important for the whole society as that of equality” and has the first Cantabrian lieutenant colonel, Pilar Villasante, and four women commanders in the posts of Ampuero, Polientes, Pesúes and Cabuérniga. Thus, he has indicated that Cantabria has “one of the staff with the highest rate of women in the country”.
Casares has also highlighted the social work of the Civil Guard thanks to the work of the ROCA Teams and their interviews with vulnerable people in rural areas; the help and rescue of the citizen security units and the GREIM of Potes; or the EMUME Team that works on gender violence and minors. “That’s all the Civil Guard,” I said.
And, for the performance of that work, the government delegate has thanked each and every one of the civil guards of Cantabria and also their families, as well as the National Police and the 550 agents of the 33 local police in the region for “your enormous service to Spain and Cantabria”
Before concluding his speech, the government delegate had a few words of remembrance for the one who until a few weeks ago was head of the Civil Guard of Cantabria, Brigadier General Antonio Orantos, to whom he has expressed his “affection and gratitude” and who has highlighted his “unblemished service sheet”.
The event, held in Camino Real de Cartes, was attended by other regional authorities such as the President of Parliament, María José González Revuelta; the Counselor of the Presidency, Isabel Urrutia; the Mayor of Cartes, Lorena Cueto; or the Bishop of Santander, Arturo Ros.
