The Government Delegation in Asturias will hold on November 22, at 12:00, a talk-colloquium framed in the institutional initiative Government ‘Spain in freedom. 50 years’ destined to value the social and cultural evolution of the country since the recovery of democracy. On this occasion, the focus is on the rural environment of Asturias, its changes over five decades and the current challenges.
The meeting will be held at the Museo del Oriente de Asturias, in Porrúa, Llanes, and will be moderated by Vanesa Gutiérrez, Councillor for Culture of the Government of the Principality of Asturias. Three speakers with complementary trajectories and deeply linked to the territory will participate:
- Manuel Niembro, geographer, who will analyze the demographic and territorial transformations experienced by the Asturian countryside since the late 1970s.
- Carmina Rodríguez, founder of the Association of Peasant Women, who will bring the social and community perspective from the female experience in the rural environment.
- Luis Benito García, director of the Chair of the Cider of Asturias and professor of Contemporary History at the University of Oviedo, who will address the role of culture and traditional productions as a sign of identity and as an economic and social resource.
In addition, the event will feature the musical performance of Ún de Grao. The Government Delegation in Asturias, through this activity, wants to highlight the importance of the rural world as a fundamental part of the democratic memory and social transformation of the last five decades. The talk is thus added to the set of acts that, throughout Spain, are part of ‘Spain in freedom. 50 Years’ An initiative aimed at recognising democratic progress and bringing this historic journey closer to the citizens.
The Government Delegation in Asturias has already held an event on 9 October on progress in women’s rights in the last fifty years and is already organising more activities for the coming weeks.
