The Minister of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, Ángel Víctor Torres, visited today the municipality of La Roda, in Albacete, where the Government of Spain cofinances the reconstruction of the Nuevo Maracañí football field, where the replacement of the artificial grass has been carried out, which suffered serious damage with the Dana of September 3, 2023, with a cost of 250,000 euros.
The minister, who has been accompanied by the mayor of the town, Juan Ramón Amores, has pointed out that the municipality of La Roda is “an example of cooperation between administrations” and that now, after the experience of the Dana last October, which affected the communities of Castilla-La Mancha, the Valencian Community and Andalusia, is, more than ever, “a firm defender of the work of the municipalities and the need to collaborate to take forward projects”.
Torres recalled that this week he appeared to announce that, before the last Dana, “the Government of Spain will contribute, not 50%, as usual, but 100% of the funds to finance municipal works.” The minister has clarified that it is 1,745 million “for sports, leisure, social infrastructures, municipal buildings, also roads, for whose reconstruction we are going to advance the funds.”
“We are going to relieve the liquidity of these municipalities and enable them to carry out important works. We want to be on the side of the municipal reality”, added the minister, who pointed out that for the affected municipalities of Castilla-La Mancha, Letur and Mira, there are already committed items of 26 million and 15 million in aid, respectively, among which 10.9 million (Letur) and 11.7 million (Mira) will be allocated for municipal infrastructure repair works.
“We are talking about municipalities that have a budget of just over a million. Therefore, without the help of the Government of Spain, it would be impossible for those works to be undertaken,” he said.
Visit to the Posada del Sol and the collection of Antonio Carrilero
The minister has also been able to visit the Posada del Sol, a recently renovated building, where La Roda shows its cultural facet, with the collection of the local painter Antonio Carrilero and with one of the best Cervantine collections in Spain, with more than 3,000 copies.
Torres has also been able to visit the completed works of the new Youth Center.
Democratic Memory
The municipality of La Roda is also part of the Exhumation Plan of the Ministry of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, thanks to the request of 20 families.
A 14-metre-long pit has already been located and 5 skeletons are in sight. They estimate that there may be about 20. A few years ago the relatives took out between 11 and 15 bodies to bury them in another place of the cemetery.
