The Secretary General of Territorial Coordination, Miryam Álvarez, the Director General of Health of Agri-Food Production and Animal Welfare of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Valentín Almansa de Lara, and the President of State Ports, Álvaro Rodríguez Dapena, have presented today the new model of border control, which will be used in general at all Border Control Posts (PCF) from the week of January 20.
This initiative is part of the joint work developed for the improvement of sanitary and phytosanitary inspection services at the border, after the day held in July 2024 in the Port of Algeciras, with a very positive balance of the pilot projects launched since October 2024 in Algeciras and Barcelona.
The unification of veterinary action, the elimination of duplication and the simplification of procedures are the main tools of this new organisational model, defined in Ministerial Order 756/2024 of 22 July, agreed between all the competent ministries.
Day of presentation
In the presentation of the day, the Secretary General of Territorial Coordination, Myriam Álvarez, stressed that the new model of health control “is the result of intense work by the competent ministries, committed to a courageous and firm commitment to overcome strongly rooted dynamics, which have been inefficient to ensure an adequate response to current demand.”
“This is the way forward to guarantee the provision of a service according to current needs in international freight traffic that will undoubtedly have positive results in the competitiveness of our ports,” he said.
