The Minister of Territorial Policy and Spokeswoman of the Government, Isabel Rodríguez, has highlighted that, at a time when we hear about cultural war, despite the fact that we live in the framework of social peace, she prefers to talk about cultural peace, where the battle is only creative and shared with the public: “At a time of war in the heart of Europe, of climate crisis, of the rise of populism, culture represents today’s society, open, inclusive, tolerant, supportive and freely expressed.”
Isabel Rodríguez, during her speech at the opening of the 46th edition of the International Classical Theatre Festival in Almagro, together with the Minister of Culture and Sport, Miquel Iceta, added that “Culture is the oxygen of our society, and if we lose culture, we lose democracy, history, memory and development, we weaken our coexistence, of course, we lose unique opportunities for economic and social progress”.
The minister stressed that “it never hurts to remember it and especially when there are voices that instead of renewing and expanding the space of rights propose to re-divide the stage of life and the theatrical by censoring authors and banning companies. The stages, parliaments and streets must always be open, one to creation, one to ideas and all to equality, diversity and dialogue”
The minister has described the International Classical Theatre Festival of Almagro as a clear demonstration of the importance of public support and collaboration between the different administrations, the Ministry of Culture and Sport, the Community Board of Castilla-La Mancha, the County Council of Ciudad Real, the City Council of Almagro and the University of Castilla-La Mancha.
