The Minister of Territorial Policy and Spokeswoman for the Government, Isabel Rodríguez, stressed that “Spain has reason to be proud of an economic strength demonstrated in recent years, the agri-food industry, which is part of the Spanish economic engine, which has significantly increased exports, around 70 billion euros, which represents 10% of the GDP of our country and which occupies 2.8 million workers. A sector that the Government of Spain will continue to pay attention to because it is a significant and stable part of the growth of our country.”
Isabel Rodríguez has visited Nico Jamones, a family business with 50 years of activity, with more than 30 million turnover, with almost 100 workers, which sells more than 850,000 Serrano and Iberian hams a year and climbs positions in the business, regional and national ranking. The minister recalled that the agri-food sector, in addition to creating wealth, makes two important contributions: “It creates employment and a fixed population in rural areas and contributes to social cohesion, with a growing gastronomic commitment that would not be possible without a good raw material and a good ham, like that of this company.”
The minister congratulated the sector and conveyed the pride of the Government of Spain for what represents our agri-food industry, of which the company Nico Jamones is part. A sector that has survived the harsh years of the pandemic and will continue to be supported by the Government: “We have provided direct aid to the sector and, in the country strategic plan, we frame as one of the priorities planning strategic autonomy, among other areas in the field of food. You are on the agenda of Spain and the EU and you will be on the agenda of the European Spanish Presidency to celebrate the success of this company that symbolizes the success of many companies in our country.”
