The Minister of Territorial Policy and Public Service defended in his first act the value of the public: “Citizens demand quality public services and we cannot disappoint”
Madrid, February 1st, 2021. - The Minister of Territorial Policy and Public Service, Miquel Iceta, presided this lunchtime over the act of handing over titles and compliance with the Constitution of the members of the 53rd promotion of the Higher Corps of Civil Administrators of the State.
The minister stressed that his first institutional act is to show his “commitment to public employees”. Iceta has emphasized the selective process that the Civil Administrators of the State have overcome, “based on the principles of equality, merit and ability and with an important preparation” to develop the functions in their future jobs.
As he said, transparency, accountability and e-government will enable further progress in the quality of public services:
“We joined the administration of the 21st century, to continue having the best public services in the world, thanks to you, the employees and the public employees. Citizens demand quality public services and we cannot disappoint.”
The act of delivery of degrees and the 4th university master’s degree taught jointly by the National Institute of Public Administration (INAP) and the Menéndez Pelayo International University in Civil Administration of the State, has been held this year telematically, due to the restrictions of afor or caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
When the circumstances allow it, a face-to-face event will be held.
The minister stressed that “public administrations need public servants for whom transparency and accountability is a public requirement to carry out high-responsibility functions based on knowledge, new technologies and competences to be developed by the General Administration of the State”.
“You will occupy a strategic position in decision-making and in attending to the demands of citizens and in defending their rights, always in collaboration with territorial administrations and making effective one of the objectives of the 2030 Agenda so that “no one is left behind”, Iceta stressed.
The minister added that it is a commitment of the Government to apply the 2030 Agenda in the Public Service, “to implement the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), their content and adaptation for their implementation.”
Value of the public
Iceta has valued public services, as well as the work and delivery of public employees, “for example, during the recent disasters we have experienced. You are where and when you are needed.”
In terms of the Public Service, the minister has pointed out that the challenges are “to advance in planning, needs, face the aging of the workforce and attract the talent to incorporate new personnel and have the best professionals in the General Administration of the State”.
Finally, Iceta recalled that the latest Public Employment Offers are the most important of the last ten years, “thanks to the effort made by the Government to continue counting on the best public employees and their ability to serve citizenship.”
