With a PhD in Chemical Sciences and an international reference in geochemistry and volcanic surveillance, Nemesio Pérez has played an essential role not only in the phase of analysis and monitoring of the eruptive phenomenon, but also in the subsequent technical advice, aimed at ensuring a safe reconstruction based on scientific criteria. The Commissioner stressed that the figure of Nemesio Pérez has been key to transfer tranquility, rigor and knowledge to the citizens in times of greater uncertainty. “The reconstruction process could not be done with the back of knowledge,” said Izquierdo. “Risk assessment and strategic decision-making have benefited from their experience and continued willingness to serve the public,” the Commissioner said.
At the meeting, Nemesio Pérez thanked the recognition and wanted to share it “with the entire scientific and technical community that worked tirelessly before, during and after the eruption.”
With this distinction, the High Office of the State recognizes not only the technical and scientific work developed, but also the personal commitment and constant dedication of Nemesio Pérez to the present and future of the island, consolidating his figure as one of the essential references in the recent history of the volcanism of La Palma.
