The proposal, raised by the Ministries of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory and of Industry and Tourism, includes the authorization to extend the validity of the agreement signed in December 2022 between the Secretary of State for Tourism, the Ministry of Tourism of the Canary Islands Government and the City of Los Llanos de Aridane. This is a key extension to complete strategic actions that are underway in the municipality, immersed as it is in the midst of reconstruction. The validity of the initial document ended in 2026 and, thanks to the approval in Moncloa made today, it will be possible to extend the term four additional years, extending the execution until June 2030.
Héctor Izquierdo stressed the importance of this extension as it “will consolidate actions that are essential for the tourist regeneration of the municipality and for the recovery of the economic fabric after the eruption.” Thus, it is possible to guarantee the execution of projects of energy efficiency, accessibility and tourism competitiveness, especially in such sensitive areas as Puerto Naos “with realistic deadlines”, insists the High Office of the State.
Essential recovery of the Puerto Naos area
The total budget of the Plan amounts to 3.9 million euros, co-financed by the General Administration of the State in 50%, the Government of the Canary Islands in 40% and the City of Los Llanos de Aridane in 10%. It includes important actions to strengthen the recovery of the Puerto Naos area, integrated into two axes: on the one hand, energy efficiency, with investments aimed at improving facilities, increasing energy self-consumption and promoting the use of renewable energies; on the other, the core of actions aimed at enhancing competitiveness, such as those that improve accessibility and modernize tourist spaces.
The Commissioner for Reconstruction stressed, in this regard, that “The Plains of Aridane needs stability, investment and long-term planning.” That is why the agreement extended today in the Council of Ministers allows the Aridans the certainty necessary to establish a solid road map towards reconsidered tourism planning in the area after being seriously affected by the volcanic flows.
