The financing provided today by Moncloa makes it possible to undertake the works included in the agreement and thus recover the roads, roads and hydraulic pipelines that originally existed before the eruption of the Tajogaite. The Commissioner for the Reconstruction of the island, Héctor Izquierdo, in his work of analysis and follow-up of the measures adopted, raised the report and the proposal for the updating of these items. “Eligible infrastructure costs that were already listed under the 2022 agreement have been adapted,” he explained. According to the agreement between institutions, the State covers 50% of the funding, while the remaining 50% is distributed between the Government of the Canary Islands and the Island Council.
The coladas of the volcano, in its capricious path to the sea, left isolated estates, homes and tourist businesses. “In Tazacorte, the volcanic affectation was mostly on crops whose access the City of Tazacorte is enabling,” explains Izquierdo, so “it is important to continue this work so that we can begin to cultivate the sorribada farms and that farmers can recover their economic activity,” he stressed.
