The Benahorite rock engravings, in the process of being recognized as a World Heritage Site, analyzed the candidacy to qualify for the UNESCO world recognition, reaching the final stage for the evaluation of inclusion in the indicative list, stage prior to the decision of the National Council of Historical Heritage.
“There is no other island in the world that in such a small space has such a concentration of petroglyphs. Although the motifs, such as spirals and circles, may seem common, their technique, subject matter and locations are unique,” said the palmer archaeologist, Jorge País, as well as highlighting the support of the Director General of Culture, Clavijo and the idea and cooperation of the Special Commissioner of the Government, Héctor Izquierdo.
