The Secretary of State for Democratic Memory, Fernando Martínez, and the prosecutor of the Democratic Memory and Human Rights Chamber, Dolores Delgado, spoke at the conference, held at the Ateneo in Madrid. Both have agreed on the importance of analyzing the facts of the past from an objective and impartial position and placing at the center of the proceedings the victims whose typology is perfectly described in the Democratic Memory Act, approved by the Government last October 2022.
For its part, the Spanish Society of Anthropology and Forensic Dentistry offered to collaborate in everything that the Administration may require by making available both to the people and the material means of the different forensic anthropology laboratories.
The Spanish Association of Forensic Anthropology and Dentistry brings together the entire group of forensic anthropologists from Spain who work in the judicial and academic fields. This year’s meeting, in its fifteenth edition, was dedicated to the analysis of mass graves of the four-year exhumation plan launched by the Secretary of State for Democratic Memory. Thus, more than 50 research papers have been presented, which has allowed us to update the information on this subject that is in full swing in our country. In this meeting, attended by 130 professionals, the presence of young researchers has been very significant. In addition to their training and technical skills, they have demonstrated extensive knowledge and great sensitivity for Human Rights and Democratic Memory.
One of the round tables was dedicated to forensic genetics and presented the plan that has been established with the expectation of the participation of thirteen laboratories with the same analysis protocols in order to make all the necessary comparisons at the national level.
