Círculo de Bellas Artes, Madrid
The meeting, in which people from different fields and generations have participated with the aim of reflecting on what democratic memory means, has taken place in the Círculo de Bellas Artes. In it, the Minister of the Presidency, Relations with the Courts and Democratic Memory, Félix Bolaños, has stressed that the Government aims to continue the development and implementation of the Law of Memory to respond to the great principles of international humanitarian law: truth, justice, reparation and guarantee of non-repetition as a duty of memory. "There is still work to be done: the constitution of commissions, the regulatory development of the law, the resignificance of the Cuelgamuros Valley... We have a task ahead of us and we will continue to demonstrate that memory policies are a matter of state."
The event, organized by InfoLibre and the Secretary of State for Democratic Memory, was attended by a group of young university students and various specialists in democratic memory, such as the professors of contemporary history Gutmaro Gómez and María de los Ángeles Egido together with the journalist Natalia Junquera.
Félix Bolaños, in the balance sheet of the entry into force of the Law on Memory and in response to the questions of young university students, has pointed out different achievements, such as the recognition of the women who were retaliated during the Franco regime, the exhumation plan that allows the location, identification and delivery of remains of victims to their relatives for their burial in dignified burial, and has concluded that the entry of memory into the school is fundamental to consolidate and strengthen our rights and freedoms. Memory is Democracy.
The singer-songwriters Marwan and Pedro Pastor have performed different musical pieces and have closed the event.
