The Government proposes that visits to the interior of the building may begin from the second half of March, provided that the security conditions allow it.
The Government has announced, at the meeting of the Technical Commission of the Pazo de Mearas, that the opening to the public of the exterior of the building can be done next Saturday, January 30, although given the information of the mayor of Sada that the municipality is going to perimeter for reasons of the pandemic, in principle, it would be done only for the citizenship of this town.
In this meeting, chaired by the Secretary of State for Democratic Memory, Fernando Martínez, and held electronically, representatives of all the administrations interested in the future of the Pazo have participated: Xunta de Galicia, Diputación de A Coruña and the Town Councils of Sada and A Coruña.
Fernando Martínez has explained that the Government proposes that the public visits to the interior of the building can take place from the second half of March, provided that the security conditions allow it and finalize the arrangements for the existing damages and the electrical installation and that, even, some rooms could be opened before, in case of conformity.
In addition to the date of opening of the Pazo to the visits, during the meeting the creation of a group of experts and experts who reflect on the story and future uses of Mearas, the realization of an exhibition on the history of the Pazo and the articulation of a collaboration agreement of the Galician institutions with the General Administration of the State for the maintenance of the property.
Regarding the creation of the group, it has been constituted according to the following composition: by the General Administration of the State, Xosé Manuel Núñez Xeixas, Juan Manuel Rodríguez Blanco and Manuel Regueiro López; by the Xunta de Galicia: Ramón Villares e Isabel Burdiel; por la Diputación provincial de A Coruña: Carlos Babío and Emilio Grandío; for the City of Sada: Manuel Pérez Lozano; for the City of A Coruña: José Alfeiran Rodríguez; for the Galician Royal Academy: Marilar Aleixandre and for the Galician Culture Council: Rebeca Blanco Rotea.
Fernando Martínez has announced the preparation of an exhibition in which the story of the history of Mevas will be told. The Secretary of State has estimated that, from the point of view of democratic memory, this history would have to be explained in all its phases from the universe of Pardo Bazán, as an enclosure for visits of kings and conspiracy, Mevas summer headquarters of the Francoist State leadership and, finally, the most recent stage, characterized by oblivion and citizen demand for it to be returned to the State Heritage.
Finally, Fernando Martínez has presented the general lines of a draft collaboration agreement, which will be sent to all administrations so that they can study it and, where appropriate, make observations.
This is the second time that the Technical Commission of the Pazo de Mevas has met. The first meeting was held for its constitution, on December 15, once the Pazo de Mearas became a provisional execution of public ownership. It was the First Vice-President, Minister of the Presidency, Relations with the Courts and Democratic Memory, Carmen Calvo, who proposed the creation of this Technical Commission to the administrations interested in the Pazo on December 9, following the judicial decision that gives its ownership to State Heritage.
