In July 1936 a military uprising led to a war between Spaniards – with extensive international repercussions – that lasted for a thousand days. The transfer of the republican institutions first from Madrid to Valencia and later to Barcelona, gave way in April 1939 to a long exile, while in Franco’s Spain the defeated were subjected to a harsh repression, an epilogue to that developed in the two areas during the war. The Secretary of State for Democratic Memory of the Ministry of the Presidency, Relations with the Courts and Democratic Memory, with the collaboration of the Faculty of Geography and History of the University of Seville, have organized the following face-to-face and online colloquium, in which prominent historians and historians will participate to reflect on what represented for our country the end of that democratic experience that was the Second Republic, established 90 years ago.
