- The municipality recorded significant reductions in vehicle theft (-23%); robberies with violence or intimidation (-17.9%); crimes of injury (-14%) and crimes against sexual freedom (-16.7%).
The Getafe crime rate remains eight points below the Community of Madrid average in the third quarter of the year, according to data from the Ministry of the Interior’s Crime Balance for the third quarter of 2025. This and other indicators have been analyzed at the Extraordinary Local Security Board held today in the City of Getafense where the special device for the Christmas holidays has also been reviewed.
The meeting was co-chaired by the delegate of the Government of Spain in the Community of Madrid, Francisco Martín Aguirre; and the mayor of Getafe, Sara Hernández Barroso. During the same, the security situation in the municipality has been assessed, which, according to the data accumulated between January and September, remains stable with a crime rate (48.8) significantly below the regional average (56.7).
Within this global computation, the reduction experienced in certain crimes such as vehicle theft (-23%), robberies with violence or intimidation (-17.9%), crimes of injury (-14%) and crimes against sexual freedom (-16.7%) has been valued.
Francisco Martín wanted to acknowledge and thank the work of the police forces whose coordinated action makes these figures possible and contributes to improving the quality of life of all Getafenses.
Safe Christmas Plan
In addition to the review of crime figures, the Local Security Board, in which members of the Government team, representatives of the National Police, Civil Guard, Local Police of Getafe, Civil Protection and a representative of the Community of Madrid have also participated, has revised the special operation foreseen in the Safe Christmas Plan.
Deployed for approximately one month, it includes specific actions in the field of road safety, control over pyrotechnic devices, surveillance in shopping centers, public transport and central roads; and protection of multitudinous events, such as the Cavalcade of Kings or shows held at the Fairgrounds.
On the part of the National Police, the Safe Trade Plan will be strengthened at this time in order to prevent theft, robbery with force and in means of transport. In addition, in anticipation of the increase in empty homes due to the Christmas holidays, devices will be prepared to react against house robberies, in coordination with the Local Police, with which regular meetings are held.
In conclusion, the government delegate wanted to thank the municipality for its participation in the VioGén system, and urged the City Council to proceed to the prompt updating of the operational procedure for action in accordance with the new Instruction of the Ministry of the Interior.
