The deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña, Julio Abalde, visited today the Town Hall of A Pobra do Caramiñal accompanied by the chief colonel of the Provincial Command of A Coruña of the Civil Guard, Fernando Pedreira, and by the mayor of the town, José Carlos Vidal, on the occasion of the recent authorization for the conversion of the auxiliary post of the Civil Guard to a common post.
During the meeting, Abalde highlighted this decision, adopted by the General Directorate of the Civil Guard, which resolves the transformation of the Auxiliary Post of A Pobra do Caramiñal into a Common Post. “The conversion of the auxiliary post into a common post is a clear benefit for the citizens, allowing to offer a closer, stable and effective Civil Guard service, with a greater presence in the territory and better attention to the needs of the neighborhood,” said the deputy delegate.
This provision, which will be effective from January onwards, will gradually increase staffing to 12 civilian guards, compared to the current three, with a 1st Sergeant/Sergeant as Post Commander; a 1st Corporal/Corporal as Post Commander and 10 Civilian Guards.
The coverage of these posts will be carried out gradually, and it is expected that during 2026 the competition will be convened for the provision of a First Sergeant or Sergeant post and two Civil Guard positions, which will be added at the end and at the end 1st and to the two civil guards that are already serving today. This increase in the number of personnel will allow us to offer a more accommodating police response to a municipality that has more than 9,000 inhabitants registered, a figure that is greatly exceeded during the summer seasons.
It is also a city council with an important business and labor dynamism, with an economic development that is linked to new security challenges, which can be met with greater guarantees thanks to the new structure of the position.
The new common post will also facilitate the strengthening of cooperation with the Local Police of A Pobra do Caramiñal, allowing closer attention to neighborhood problems and better coordination of security resources at the municipal level.
In the adoption of this decision, it also had a significant influence on the geographical situation of the municipality, which hinders the immediate mutual support that can be provided in other points of the province. In this sense, the creation of new jobs will also have a positive impact on the whole area, since the post of A Pobra do Caramiñal will act in close collaboration with those of Porto do Son, Boiro and Rianxo, strengthening the territorial and operational coverage of the Civil Guard in this area.
“This reinforcement responds to the commitment of the Government of Spain with a public security of proximity and an effective presence of the Civil Guard throughout the territory,” said Abalde, who stressed that “the increase in human resources translates into a better service for the neighborhood and a greater capacity for prevention and action.”
The Civil Guard Command of the province of A Coruña covers 94% of the provincial territory, with 644,899 inhabitants, which represents 57% of the total population, and has a demarcation of 956 kilometers of coastline, which demonstrates the relevance of strengthening security resources in this area. To serve this territory, the Command has a total of 51 Civil Guard posts in the province.
