The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, defended today to make “constitutional pedagogy” among young people about the rights and freedoms achieved with democracy and the advances that brought to Spain the last 50 years. The delegate claimed this capacity of social networks as an instrument to consolidate the democratic culture among young people and girls in a meeting he held with the Galician streamer Mercedes Méndez ‘Totakeki’, who is the protagonist of an informative campaign promoted by the Delegation in the main social networks under the hashtag #DesmentindoBos.
Pedro Blanco went to Noia (A Coruña), a town where ‘Totakeki’ resides and from which he promotes in networks different aspects of his life and work at sea, of Galician culture, and also from where he performs his live shows and participations in electronic sports competitions, currently within the ‘Team Heretics’ team.
The delegate thanked Mercedes for its collaboration in this initiative and insisted on the duty of the institutions to raise awareness of the past and the present, since it is she who has the duty and responsibility to continue making a country in democracy and rights, “building a Spain in her image and likeness without anyone imposing it”. And he pointed out that, “if young people do not know what dictatorship is, they cannot despise it, they cannot value democracy and the rights that are the foundations of the Spain that we enjoy today”.

The Campaign promoted by the Government Delegation consists of five videos in reel format that are available in the accounts that the Delegation has active on Tik Tok, Instagram, X and Youtube. These pieces, united by the hashtag #DesmentindoBos, compare with data and figures the main hoaxes and lies around freedom of expression, the Galician language, equality, sexual freedom and the supposed “advances” that are falsely attributed to the dictatorship.
For its realization, the Delegation chose Mercedes Méndez who adds 350 thousand followers in Tik Tok and more than 108 thousand on Instagram, accounts in which daily opens a window of Galicia to the world.
Commemorative programme
The Government agreed to promote this year 2025 the commemoration of the “50 years of Spain in Freedom” to mark the 50th anniversary of the end of the dictatorship and the beginning of the democratic transition process. For this celebration, a specific Government Commissioner (attached to the Ministry of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory) was created and the historian Carmina Gustrán was appointed as head of this body.
In the case of Galicia, the Delegation joined this commemoration with a Driven programming by the Government Delegation in Galicia and the Commissioner for the Celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Spain in Freedom. In the programming there is space for theater, dialogues with researchers and creators, congresses and actions with organizations of democratic memory. Also for actions of personal recognition and places of memory, such as the Pazo de Mevas, Irla de San Simón and the city of Ferrol.
Carmina Gustrán, Commissioner for the Celebration of Spain’s 50th Anniversary in Freedom, explained that: “Celebrating half a century of freedom is also celebrating the plurality that defines us as a country. Spain is a diverse state, rich in territories, languages, traditions and cultural expressions. That is why it makes sense for the commemorative program to be decentralized, so that every corner of our country participates and brings its voice closer to this celebration of the democratic values we share.”
For the organization of these activities, the Delegation is advised by a working group composed of representatives of groups of historical memory in the Community.
