The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, highlighted this morning in Barreiros the work of the Government of Spain in Mariña Lucense, “which is moving forward with a firm step through serious planning, with investments and full defense of the coast against the effects of climate change.”
Pedro Blanco supervised the improvement works on the beach of Altar and advanced new performances on the promenade of San Bartolo, accompanied by the mayor of Barreiros, Ana Ermida; the second deputy mayor, Carmen Veiga, and the head of the Coastal Demarcation of Galicia, Carlos Gil.
The delegate stressed the technical rigour and the vision of the future of the projects, “a sign of the Government’s commitment to this region.” He highlighted the “enormous tourist, economic, ecological and cultural value” of the Mariña, as well as the initiatives that the Government is carrying out on its coast, exemplified this morning: “Here we invest, here we act and here we fulfill,” said Pedro Blanco.
Specifically, on the promenade of the San Bartolo area, the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, through the Provincial Coast Service in Lugo, drafted a project to act due to the landslides produced. The objective of this action is to contribute to the environmental protection of the coast and the fight against climate change.
In order to solve these problems, the Ministry has planned to invest more than 325,000 euros to carry out a transfer that generates a new coastal path that includes new regenerated green spaces, the construction of new wooden benches next to the route that will function as rest areas and viewpoints, the improvement and reconstruction of the entire current area of benches and tables, the implementation of a new lighting that guarantees night security for users and the placement of information panels to highlight the ecological, landscape and cultural values of the environment.
The actions of the Ministry fall within the spaces protected by Red Natura 2000, with which all the works will be made in accordance with the criteria of protection and environmental sustainability of this figure.
The project is open until December 6.
Repair of the dyke of the beach of Altar
In parallel, deepening the commitment of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition with the Mariña coast, the Government allocates 60,000 euros for the first phase of reconstruction of a stretch of the dyke that was suffering landslides. It is one of the areas with the highest risk for beach users.
The reconstruction of the dyke will ensure greater protection for the users of the promenade and the beach and in turn offer greater stability to the coastal edge. Once again, all the actions have full environmental protection, with the objective of the sustainability of the coast at the same time that the improvement of the facilities of one of the Marignan beaches with the largest influx of bathers in summer is achieved.
