The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, reiterated this morning the firm commitment of the government against male violence and for an egalitarian and free society for all women and girls. It did so during the commemoration of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, which took place in the Government Delegation, in A Coruña.
Pedro Blanco stressed that the government works tirelessly in these tasks, “because when talking about murders, any figure greater than zero is unacceptable.” He gave an account of the state of the fight against male violence in Galicia, noting that more than 6,100 women are protected by the VioGen System, to which 65 municipalities are attached, 88% of the 88 municipalities that meet the requirements to be able to do so.
The protection is also completed by the 260 women covered with the COMETA devices of the System for Telematic Monitoring of Measures and Penalties of Removal and by the 775 women who make use of the ATENPRO service, 24-hour telephone attention. So far this year, we must lament two women murdered by their partners or ex-partners in the Community.
The event, which featured an interpretation by pianist and composer Elsa Muñiz, began with a minute’s silence in memory of the last women murdered by male violence in Spain, Silvia and Maria del Pilar. A recognition that was extended to the 38 women killed this year in Spain the hands of their partners and that was broken with a round of applause in support of all women who suffer any violence and of encouragement to those who help and protect them.
Next, the government delegate began the reading of the Institutional Declaration approved by the Government in the Council of Ministers, and which was distributed among nine other speakers: the Mayor of A Coruña, Inés Rey; the Secretary of State for Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence, María González Veracruz; the Deputy Delegate of the Government in A Coruña, Julio Abalde; the Speaker of the Parliamentary Group of the Socialists of Galicia, José Ramón Gómez Besteiro; the Deputy Representative of the Government
