- The government delegate in Cantabria has inaugurated the Energy Day organized by the College of Industrial Engineers together with the dean, Fernando Rodríguez
The government delegate in Cantabria, Pedro Casares, assured that the Government of Spain is working so that Cantabria and the other Autonomous Communities have “enough energy” to be able to “attend to future projects”.
Casares pointed this out this Friday in statements to the press before inaugurating the Energy Day organized by the College of Industrial Engineers of Cantabria at the Paraninfo of the University of Cantabria within the framework of the activities for its 75th anniversary.
Accompanied by the Dean of Industrial Engineers, Fernando Rodríguez, the Government delegate has addressed the energy planning in which the Executive is working for the coming years and has referred to the multiple projects of data processing centers that are presenting throughout the country.
“There are many projects all over the country, more than Spain can take on and, therefore, the public administrations have to rationalize that,” said Casares.
And, he recalled, the Electricity Planning with 2030 horizon is currently in the process of allegation, in which he has trusted that the Ministry for the Ecological Transition will plan to give Cantabria “all the energy it needs but from a rational and efficient point of view”.
Regarding the increase in energy needs for another project in the region, specifically the Logistics Center of La Pasiega in Piélagos, Casares has been confident that “this need will be met”. “It is a strategic project and we are financing the first 22 million euros from the Government of Spain, so it would not make sense for us to be financing such a project and then not respond to the need for energy that this logistical and industrial development has,” he added.
Regarding the Energy Day, the government delegate stressed that it addresses a necessary debate to “build the future” because “energy is a key issue in the life of people and companies” and, therefore, the Government of Spain is accompanying the productive fabric in the energy transition.
“We are taking advantage of European funds to make that energy transition and for society to have more and more sustainable energy, more efficient and with less impact on the environment,” he said, while highlighting Spain’s commitment to renewables that has led to moments when 50% of demand is covered with these energies.
For Casares, renewables are the future and, therefore, we must help large companies in that transition but, in the meantime, he has indicated that we must “combine the energy mix”. “All energies today are necessary to respond to the demand that society has. Let’s work in the future, but bearing in mind that this energy mix in which we are is fundamental,” he said.
The government delegate in Cantabria has appeared with the dean of industrial engineers and both have detailed that the day will have the participation of the president of Red Eléctrica Española (REE), Beatriz Sillo, and also experts in all electrical generation technologies, as well as consultants.
Rodríguez has indicated that the challenge for the future is “to look for systems that are increasingly efficient and with the least environmental impact, but assuming that zero impact does not exist”.
