• The government delegate in Cantabria has inaugurated the Ordinary Executive Assembly of the Youth Council of Spain, which is held this Saturday and Sunday in Santander
The government delegate in Cantabria, Pedro Casares, has announced that the Youth Council of Spain (CJE) will receive 1,129,100 euros from the Ministry of Territorial Policy to carry out during this 2025 and in 2026 activities that strengthen the democratic values of youth within the framework of the ‘Spain in Freedom’ initiative. 50 years’ of the Government of Spain.
Casares advanced this Saturday in his speech at the inauguration of the Ordinary Executive Assembly of the CJE, which is held this Saturday and Sunday in Santander, at the headquarters of the Government Delegation in Cantabria.
The representative of the State in the community has detailed that the Ministry of Territorial Policy and the CJE have signed this Friday that “so important” agreement that will allow “to deepen the democratic values of youth and the real participation of young people.” “The Spanish Government wants to work with you,” he said.
Casares has highlighted the importance of youth associations to “assert more forcefully and more powerfully the needs of young people in all areas” and to convey the collective’s “concerns” such as employment, housing, education, mental health or the climate emergency.
Matters that the CJE will discuss during these two days in Santander and that also “concern and occupy the Government of Spain”, said the delegate, who has highlighted the work done since 2018 to promote “policies that allow the real development of youth in this country”.
Thus, it has referred to measures in the field of employment, such as labour reform, but mainly to the successive increases in the Minimum Interprofessional Wage (SMI), which the Government has raised from 735 to 1,185 euros, a 60% increase and which benefits women and young people in particular.
It has also highlighted measures in the field of housing, such as the Young Rent Bonus of 250 euros per month and the “important” “more structural” initiatives of the future State Housing Plan 2026-2030, which includes aid of up to 30,000 euros for rent with option to buy protected housing, aid of up to 10,800 euros for the purchase of housing in rural municipalities or an insurance of non-payment of rent for young people.
He has also pointed out that since 2022 the Young Cultural Voucher is under way, a direct aid of 400 euros for those who turn 18 years old, and that at the moment it keeps open the call for those who were born in 2007. “Only in Cantabria alone this year there are already more than 3600 young people who have benefited from this bonus”, he said and recalled that it can still be requested until October 31.
In the opening of this meeting, the President of the Council, Andrea Henry, also spoke, thanking the Government Delegation for the cession of the space to “be able to debate and work throughout the weekend” on issues such as “the climate crisis, employment, housing or political participation, and also highlighted the “good news” of the agreement with the Government of Spain.
The General Director of Youth, Development Cooperation and Volunteering of the Government of Cantabria, Blanca Fernández; the Councillor for Culture, Youth and Education of the City of Santander, Noemí Méndez; and the President of the Youth Council of Cantabria, David San Juan, have also participated in the inauguration of the Ordinary Executive Assembly of the CJE.
