• The government delegate in Cantabria participated in the commemorative event held next to the maritime station of Santander
The government delegate in Cantabria, Pedro Casares, has praised the “shared path” of Brittany Ferries and the city of Santander during the 47 years that the company’s ships have been connecting the Cantabrian capital with the south of England.
Casares pointed this out this Thursday in the commemorative act for the arrival of the passenger 7 million of Brittany Ferries to the Port of Santander, held next to the maritime station and in which the president of Cantabria, María José Sáenz de Buruaga, the president of the Port Authority, César Díaz, and the deputy mayor of the City Council, Margarita Rojo, have also intervened.
The government delegate stressed that the shipowner’s link with Cantabria is also “a symbol of the openness, progress and progress that came to Spain with democracy 50 years ago” and has highlighted the commitment of Brittany Ferries with the region, because “you carry the name of Santoña and Cantabria on your ships to many places”.
It has also pointed out that in 2024 about 41 million passengers passed through Spanish ports, 4% more than in 2023, and of them 33,618 cruise ship stopovers reached the Port of Santander, which represents an increase of 41.1% compared to the previous year.
“In addition, 230,000 tourists, such as the 7 million passenger we received here today, disembarked through the Brittany Ferries that connect Cantabria with Great Britain,” added Casares.
The government delegate has predicted that, “as soon as we turn around, we will surely be celebrating 8 million passengers” arrived in Santander with Brittany Ferries, a company to which he has conveyed the gratitude of the Government of Spain for its “interest in developing its activity in these facilities” of the Port of Santander, which are “a very good example of the excellent port infrastructures that this country has”.
