The government delegate in Cantabria, Pedro Casares, thanked the “dedication and service” of the 570 agents of the National Police in the autonomous community who work to “guarantee the rights and public freedoms of all citizens”, as well as “coexistence, harmony and social peace”.
Casares presided over the event on Tuesday by the patrons of the National Police, the Guardian Angels, which was held at the Casyc Theater in Santander and in which the Superior Chief of Police, Carmen Martínez, also intervened. The event was also attended by the President of the Parliament, María José González Revuelta, and the Councilor for the Presidency, Isabel Urrutia, among other authorities.
The government delegate has conveyed to all agents of the body the recognition of the Government of Spain for its “permanent commitment” to the Spanish and the Cantabrians and for its “decisive” contribution to the development of a country and an autonomous community “in freedom and democracy”.
“Spain and Cantabria live one of the best moments in their history”, said Casares who, after reviewing data on economic growth and employment, highlighted that our country leads “the advancement in rights and freedoms” with measures such as the extension of maternity and paternity leave, the Minimum Vital Income or the law that recognizes the right to die with dignity.
“Citizenship rights”, summarized the representative of the State in the community, who has also claimed the leading role of Spain “in the defense of human rights in the world and that raises the voice against inequalities and in defense of social justice and equality”.
At this point, he referred to the country’s role against the war in Ukraine or the “genocide” in Gaza. “Calling things by their name. Defending a legitimate solution of two states that can live in peace. Condemning the cruelty and gravity of a barbarism for which more than 60,000 Palestinians have already been killed,” he added.
CANTABRIA, ONE OF THE SAFEST PLACES
On the other hand, the government delegate has pointed out that Spain and Cantabria are “one of the safest places in the world”, something that is possible because of the “professionalism, efficiency and innovation” in the State Security Forces and Corps and the commitment of the Government of Spain to be able to provide both the National Police and the Civil Guard with “human and economic resources”.
Thus, he has praised that Cantabria has the “largest number of agents in its history” in the National Police, with 570 agents currently compared to 456 in 2019. And she pointed out that, of the total, 113 are women, a sign of the “commitment that women will achieve responsibilities at the head of the State Security Forces and Corps”.
“This is not the result of chance, nor of inertia, nor of improvisation, but of a Spanish Government fully aware that, in order to guarantee a country of free and equal citizens, it is necessary to have State Security Forces and Bodies with human and economic resources to guarantee it,” said Casares.
In conclusion, he reiterated his appreciation for the “unsurpassed work and dedication” of National Police officers.
During the event, 22 crossings have been imposed on the Police Merit with White Badge, four of them to personnel outside the body and 18 to agents assigned to the Superior Police Headquarters of Cantabria. Several recognition plates have also been given to professionals outside the institution as a thank you to their collaboration with the National Police.
