The government delegate in Cantabria, Pedro Casares, highlighted the “unequivocal, clear and firm commitment” of the Government of Spain in the fight against human trafficking and sexual exploitation, which is evident not only in “essential” legislative projects but also in the “unity of action”.
“It is important to be clear about where we should go and where we should never go back,” said Casares on Tuesday in his speech at the event for the International Day against Sexual Exploitation and Human Trafficking organized by the Nueva Vida Association in the Parliament of Cantabria.
The government delegate has claimed that “women’s rights are irreplaceable” and “there can be no setbacks or cuts”. And he has emphasized that talking about trafficking is “talking about violence against women” that “little is seen and nothing is talked about”.
At this point, he has referred to data from the Prosecutor’s Office’s Report of 2024 that indicate that in Cantabria there are ten active alternating clubs and 46 floors related to the exercise of prostitution although he has regretted that “this violence, sexual exploitation and trafficking is found in many other places”.
For this reason, he has called for “social and political unity” to “make visible, combat and overcome” this scourge against which many associations work, as well as Nueva Vida, as well as the Government of Spain, the Government Delegation and the State Security Forces and Corps.
Casares also congratulated Nueva Vida for the work it does every day to inform, sensitize, prevent and combat trafficking and sexual exploitation and also the ‘la Caixa’ Foundation and its deputy director, Marc Simó, for the program of comprehensive care for mothers with minor victims of trafficking.
The president of the Parliament of Cantabria, María José González Revuelta, and the director of Nueva Vida, Julio García Justamante, among others, also took part in the event.
