The Government delegate in the Canary Islands, Anselmo Pestana, has today presented the awareness campaign against gender violence that the Government Delegation launches in public transport in Gran Canaria in collaboration with the companies Guaguas Municipal de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Global (SALCAI UTINSA).
The presentation, which took place in the Santa Catalina Park of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, was also attended by the councillor delegate of the Mobility and Employment Area of the City of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and president of the Board of Directors of Municipal Guaguas, José Eduardo Ramírez, the councillor for Equality, Diversity and Citizen Participation of the City of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Betsaida González, and the general director of Guaguas Global, Víctor Quintana.
Through this campaign, which will be active until next January and which is funded by the State Pact against Gender Violence, the guaguas of 20 public transport lines of Gran Canaria, which will circulate through the urban and interurban roads of greater transit in the north, east and south of the island, will be dressed with messages of support for victims and not questioning gender violence.
“We go out into the streets again so that there is not a single corner of the island where our message is not taken into account: gender violence is still there, it must be combated and any questions about its existence must be banished. We will continue to work to make it clear: we cannot afford one more victim,” says Anselmo Pestana.
“Compared to other campaigns, we have increased our presence in public transport. We are once again collaborating with Guaguas Municipal and with Global. And on this occasion we wear guaguas that cover up to 20 lines both in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and the rest of the municipalities with a large population of the island. And we also extend the permanence of our messages until next January, thanks to the effort made by Guaguas Municipal and Global to leave more time for the campaign,” he adds.
This initiative is part of the activities that the Delegation of the Government in the Canary Islands, through its Units against Violence against Women, has organized in its seven island venues to commemorate the 25N, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and is in the line of taking messages against male violence to the streets, in the same way that it has been done with the audiovisual campaign What do you know about gender-based violence?, which continues to be broadcast on social networks until next November 17.
