The Government Delegation in Asturias will celebrate next Thursday, October 9, an act framed in the initiative of the Government of Spain “Spain 50 years in freedom”, with the aim of highlighting the progress achieved in equality and women’s rights in our country during the last five decades, as well as reflecting on the challenges that remain open.
The meeting will take place in the Historical Archive of Asturias and will be inaugurated by the delegate of the Government in Asturias, Adriana Lastra, with the director of the Archive, Concepción Paredes, as moderator.
The round table will bring together women with trajectories with a common denominator: the commitment to equality and the extension of rights. They will participate:
- Claudia Lera García, young Asturian activist and current president of Conseyu de la Mocedá del Principáu d’Asturies (CMPA). Its work focuses on defending the rights of youth, addressing issues such as housing, employment, mental health and gender equality.
- Marián Moreno, professor, writer and expert in coeducation. She is a Coeducation advisor at the Asturian Women’s Institute, where she has promoted the Coeducastur program, aimed at promoting equal education. In 2019 she was awarded the UNESCO Education for Women and Girls Award for her work for equality through education.
- Paz Fernández Felgueroso, lawyer and politician, was the first woman to occupy the city of Gijón and also the first to head the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism of the Principality of Asturias. Her career has marked milestones in women’s political participation in the Principality.
The event is part of the programming of “Spain 50 years in freedom”, an initiative promoted by the Government of Spain and aimed at commemorating half a century of democracy in Spain and recognizing the achievements in terms of rights and freedoms since the Transition.
The Government Delegation in Asturias wants, through this activity, to focus on women as protagonists of this historical journey: from the conquest of political and social rights to the fight for effective equality in everyday life.
With this round table, Asturias joins the commemorative events organized throughout Spain, reinforcing the Executive’s commitment to gender equality and democratic memory.
