From 13 to 15 October, Valencia hosted the third colloquium on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the Second Republic with the title 'The Republic of Women', under the coordination of Ana Aguado Higón.
The Second Spanish Republic signified a turning point in relation to the construction of citizenship for women and their presence in the public space. The new Republic had for the first time in the history of Spain a particular concern or equal sensitivity, because dealing with the improvement of the female condition was a key issue in the reformist and modernizing will of the new regime.
The Secretary of State for Democratic Memory of the Ministry of the Presidency, Relations with the Courts and Democratic Memory, in collaboration with the Faculty of Geography and History of the University of Valencia, the Classroom of History and Democratic Memory and the Prometheus Group of Excellence GEHTID, organized this colloquium, face-to-face and online. Prominent historians have participated in it, reflecting on what represented for women that democratic experience that was the Second Republic, established 90 years ago.
