The government delegate in the Balearic Islands, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, has traveled today to Menorca, to attend the Local Security Board of Es Mercadal and the organizational board convened by the Insular Directorate of the General Administration of the State in Menorca to prepare the security device of the Carme Process, which will take place in the Port of Maó on July 13.
In the Local Board of Es Mercadal, co-chaired by Rodríguez Badal and the mayor of this municipality, Joan Palliser, the details of coordination of the citizen security operation for the patron saint’s parties of Sant Martí and Sant Antoni of this town have been addressed. In addition, it has been agreed to adapt the Viogén operational protocol to the new instructions of the Secretariat of State for Security.
Subsequently, the delegate has participated in the Security Board for the organization of the maritime procession held on the occasion of the festivity of the Mare de Déu del Carme. The device involves a large number of institutions and entities, in addition to the Fueza and State Security Corps and the local police of Maó and Es Castell, who are responsible for ensuring the safety of the participants and attendees of this traditional summer event. The Processó del Carme is organized by the Maritime Club of Maó, with the participation of the Naval Command, which during this event opens its facilities at the Naval Station to all citizens, and fishermen’s brotherhoods. The municipalities of Maó and Es Castell, the General Directorate of Emergencies of the CAIB, the Firefighters of the Consell Insular de Menorca, the Port Authority of the Balears, Maritime Rescue and the Red Cross also collaborate.
In the course of today’s meeting, a series of mandatory instructions have been agreed for the vessels participating in the event. Therefore, all participants must have coverage of channel 72 of the Maritime Mobile Service, through which notices will be issued during the course of the procession and before its start. In addition, they will have to maintain a constant speed of 3 knots, respect the indications of the safety boats and maintain the stipulated order. It should also be remembered that the ignition of flares or bonfires is not allowed.
