The Ministry will reinforce in Balears the services of the Office of Foreigners with 14 officials before the entry into force of the new Regulation
The Ministry of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, in coordination with the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, has activated a comprehensive plan to deal with the workload that, from May 20, will be assumed by the Offices of Foreigners, as a result of the entry into force of the new Regulation on Foreigners. This will be concretized with the imminent incorporation of 14 officials in the Palma office, for an initial period of up to 18 months extendable, given that a generalized increase in applications is expected in the first period of validity, as a result of the innovations introduced by the regulations.
In addition to this short-term measure, the Ministry expects that around 500 new officials from the C1 and C2 groups, who will join the Government Delegations and Sub-Delegations in the coming months, will also be assigned to Foreigners in the various territories, thus facilitating a structural response to the challenges that are expected to arise from the application of this regulation in the coming years.
On the other hand, the plan is complemented by measures of an organizational and technological nature, including the possibility that from any of the offices that receive the reinforcement of troops -25 of the 52 that are in Spain- applications can be processed in any of the remaining offices, which will redistribute the workload. Finally, in terms of technology, new forms will be enabled for the electronic presentation through the Mercury platform and processes will be simplified and automated to shorten the time for the resolution of the files.
The Government delegate in the Balearic Islands, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, has stressed that this reinforcement represents “a decisive response to the needs posed by an essential service such as the processing of applications for residence and work of foreign people in our country, with which, once again, the Government places people at the center of its political action”.
