- The number of women murdered by violence in the couple or ex-couple in Spain amounts to 27 in 2025 and to 1,321 since 2003, figures that should lead to the recovery of the unit “sadly lost”
The workers of the Delegation of the Government of Spain in the Community of Madrid have observed a minute of silence in a sign of revulsion for the murders of two women for alleged gender violence in Barcelona and Seville.
They have been joined by representatives of the association Nosotras Same, which fights for the defense of women’s rights and who, moments before, had held a meeting with the delegate of the Government of Spain in the Community of Madrid, Francisco Martín Aguirre, who has led the event and who has been accompanied by the subdelegate of the Government, Pilar Trinidad, and the Secretary General, Pablo Izquierdo.
These are the cases of a 56-year-old woman in Barcelona on 25 May and a 47-year-old woman in Seville on 7 September.
With the confirmation of these two cases, the number of women killed by violence in the couple or ex-couple in Spain amounts to 27 in 2025 and to 1,321 since 2003. These figures “can only lead us to recover the sadly lost unit,” the government delegate said.
He also pointed to the need to “be able to use all available resources to combat male violence.” For this reason, it has once again called for the incorporation into the VioGén system of the 30 municipalities with more than ten local police who have not yet joined it.
Joint institutional response
Once again, this minute of silence has been celebrated in all the delegations and subdelegations of Spain within the framework of the “Protocol of condemnation and revulsion against murders for gender violence” that aims to offer a joint institutional response to any murder produced by gender violence and vicarious violence, as well as support and solidarity with the victims, their relatives, and people close to them.
