- The new body will strengthen coordination between administrations and will promote joint actions to improve security and coexistence in the municipality.
The government delegate in Madrid, Francisco Martín Aguirre, and the mayor of El Vellón, Catalina Llorente Fernández, co-chaired yesterday the signing ceremony for the constitution of the local Security Commission of the municipality, a body that strengthens coordination between administrations and allows to address, jointly, the main issues in the field of citizen security.
Last year’s crime data were analysed during the meeting, reflecting a 6.78% decrease in criminal offences and a 13.51% decrease in crimes against property. The crime rate in El Vellón is 6 points below the Community of Madrid average.
On the part of the Civil Guard, it was pointed out that a significant percentage of the crimes registered corresponds to the digital sphere. In this regard, it was proposed to promote public awareness campaigns on prevention and cybersecurity, to better inform and protect the population against these threats.
The government delegate valued very positively the creation of this Bureau as a coordination and planning tool, while the mayor stressed the commitment of the City Council to the safety and well-being of all the neighbors of El Vellón.
